3D Scanning and Quality Control
Project type
Academic Research
Date
2022 - 2024
Location
Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, France
Digital fabrication requires rigorous quality control and fabrication checks to ensure the built structure aligns with the theoretical model, fabrication data, and analysis simulations. This process also involves calculating deviations, adjusting specifications as needed, and ensuring structural and fabrication precision throughout the construction process.
At the Build’In platform, we utilize three primary tools for this purpose: motion capture with Optitrack, 3D scanning with a Hexagon portable measuring arm (for smaller objects), and distance tracking with a Leica laser tracker (for larger structures like pavilions). These methods enable the creation of precise models to verify that built elements adhere to defined parameters, forming a crucial part of the research process for every project.
